Deep in Texas a new industrial change is happening. Riot Platforms is almost done with the first part of its Corsicana site ‒ a huge project changing how some think about Bitcoin mining. Covering 265 acres of Texas land, this place isn't just any mining site ‒ it's set to be the biggest Bitcoin mine anywhere in the world.

The project's size is awe-inspiring. When fully running the Corsicana site will use one gigawatt of power ‒ enough to power about 750,000 American homes. This enormous project shows a significant change in Bitcoin mining. The network has moved from simple setups in old warehouses and basements to sprawling industrial operations that rival traditional data centers.

The first part of the project, nearly complete, shows a glimpse into the future. With 400 megawatts of power across four massive buildings, this first segment alone ranks among the largest mining sites in the world. A1 and A2 buildings are already bustling with state-of-the-art Bitcoin miners. The third building, B1, is coming online soon, while B2 is nearly ready for its first miners.

What makes Corsicana unique is its advanced technology. Unlike traditional air cooling methods, Riot uses 100% immersion cooling throughout the site. This method, which dips mining machines in special thermal fluid, is the latest in mining technology. By keeping temperatures as close to optimal as possible, immersion cooling makes hardware last longer and greatly improves mining efficiency.

The site's advance technology extends beyond the latest trends in cooling. Riot works with MicroBT to use their newest miners, pushing hash rates to their current limit. This mix of top hardware and smart cooling makes Corsicana a model for future mining sites worldwide – the next gen of digital mining is officially here.

The site has become a large economic driver for the local community in Corsicana. Building a facility of this size has created many jobs and has helped local businesses find new lifelines. Perhaps most importantly, Riot has thus far acted responsibly in Texas's often-tricky energy landscape.

Riot's power use is notably forward-thinking in a state still dealing with grid issues, considering the disastrous 2021 Texas winter storm. The company has joined ERCOT's demand response programs and is transforming its massive power consumption into a tool for greater grid stability. During periods of high power demand, Riot can quickly cut its own power consumption, helping stop blackouts before they happen while earning credits that lower its costs once the grid stabilizes.

Riot doesn’t plan on slowing down its Texas-based investments, either. Phase 2 of the project is already in progress and will add 600 additional megawatts of power. Riot has already ordered key electrical parts for this buildout, with the first buildings of Phase 2 expected to be complete around late 2025. Once finished, Riot projects its total mining hash rate to reach around 31 EH/s, with even more growth expected further down the line.

This big development comes at an important time for Bitcoin mining in North America. After China's mining ban in 2021 the U.S. has become the leader in Bitcoin mining with Texas leading the way. The state's friendly business rules, relatively low energy costs and plenty of renewable energy make it a hot spot for mining sites.

The Corsicana site represents more than just another Bitcoin mining operation. It's living proof that Bitcoin mining is entering a new era. Gone are the early days of small miners in humble basements.
